My current job is as an automation engineer at Intel. I am currently assisting with the development of a process for the Intel Tiber Cloud which is part of the CCG, Client Computing Group.
Withouth a doubt this was the most exciting job I have ever had. The number of times I came close to dying within the first 2 months was absurd. This has been my favorite job ever, bottomline. I worked with amazing people, did terrifying climbs, and learned a lot about trees. If it was sustainable I would have been doing this job for the rest of my life.
I found a mom and pop retreo video shop and saw they were hiring. SO I decided to take a chance. I handled open to close and mainly specialized in repairing consoles. This ranged from older consoles, such as GameBoys, NES, all the way to new generation consoles like Nintendo Switches, PS5 and Xbox series X. I thought this would be a very enjoyable experience, but being in the mall with those terrible folurescent lights was gut wrenching and I had to change.
Being a computer science tutor has been one of the most frustrating, but also one of the most rewarding jobs I have had. Teaching is something I really enjoy, and being able to help people progress is a difficult degree was even better. The first year was very enjoyable, but then ChatGPT came out... Teaching went from having people explain their code to me, to them putting no effort in and just copy pasting AI produced code. After this I noticed an extreme drop in the amount of effort people put in. They stopped trying to understand concepts and just accepted anything ChatGPT gave them. In the matter of about a year I went from explaining concepts like linear linked lists, maps, hashtables, and sorting algorithms, to explaining what a function and a string is. This is what I saw AI do to the people entering college.
I learned an amazing amount at BestBuy. I made many friends and saw just how lazy management truly can be at a place where there is no room to move up. I mainly enjoyed BestBuy for the friends I made, and the discount was great as well. But the sad part was the lack of effort from upper management and the only metric was the amount of credit cards you had customers sign up for. I learned why they rotate through staff, and why their staff is young. Mainly because the lie to us about the credit card and upsell it, so we can convince patrons to sign up just to ruin their credit score! All in all, I had a great time working here, shout out to my boss Stan, the only good manager there!
Here at Singapore Math I truly learned how fragile the human back can be, even for a young buck such as myself. Within the first week I was wearing a back brace religiously and felt like a 70 year old each night I came back from work. Anyway! This was another job I got for some extra cash when I first started going to college.
My first official job! I started this job when I was 16 in high school as a way to earn some extra cash. Here I learned a lot of interesting things, from making friends with 40-year-olds, all the way to the corrupt and inappropriate behaviour of managers. This job was extremely valuable to me and provided an amazing learning experience.
